102 Genuine Draft 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Maier's 102 Genuine Draft 16 Oz

Produced by the Maier Brewing Company in Los Angeles, California, the 102 Genuine Draft 16-ounce tab top represents a notable entry in Southern California's brewing history. Maier Brewing was a long-standing fixture of the Los Angeles industrial landscape, recognized for its prominent facility near the downtown freeway interchange and its flagship "102" brand family.

Packaging and Design

The 102 Genuine Draft label expanded upon the brewery's core identity by offering a packaged draft-style presentation. Issued in the 16-ounce straight steel format—often referred to as a pint or half-quart—the can provided an alternative to standard 12-ounce containers.

The can face highlights bold "102" branding accompanied by graphics of a foamy beer glass. Collectors track variations across different production runs, noting differences such as mandatory statement phrasing with or without postal ZIP codes, shifts in the coloration of the glass illustration, and lid stamping variations.

Historical and Collecting Context

As one of the prominent independent brewing institutions in Southern California, Maier produced an extensive array of labels and format sizes. The 16-ounce 102 Genuine Draft can remains a sought-after piece for breweriana historians documenting West Coast regional breweries and the evolution of the iconic 102 line.
