ABC Famous Quality Beer Cone Top Can

ABC Famous Quality Cone Top

The ABC Famous Quality Beer cone top represents one of Southern California's most storied brewing operations. Aztec Brewing Company originally established its operations in Mexicali, Mexico, in 1921 to navigate American Prohibition. Following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the brewery relocated across the border to San Diego's Logan Heights neighborhood, quickly growing into one of the largest brewing enterprises on the West Coast.

The "ABC" moniker served as an abbreviation for the Aztec Brewing Company, while the prominent "Famous" designation celebrated the brand's international recognition after earning a gold medal at the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition in Seville, Spain. The can't graphic design prominently showcases this heritage, featuring the bold ABC insignia and heritage motifs associated with the brewery's identity.

Manufactured in partnership with Continental Can Company, these cans were distributed throughout the West Coast. Among collectors of Pacific regional breweriana, variations of this label are recognized, including both low-profile and high-profile profile can designs. Aztec's San Diego facility was eventually acquired in the late 1940s, making authentic Aztec-era ABC cans prized relics of San Diego's early industrial brewing landscape.
