ABC Premium Beer Flat Top Can

ABC Premium Beer Metallic Can

The ABC Premium Beer flat top was produced by Gold Brau in Chicago, Illinois. In mid-century brewing history, the Gold Brau moniker operated as a trade identity associated with the Canadian Ace Brewing Company, used to market distinct labels and expand retail distribution across regional markets.

Design and Variation Details

The face of the can features a bold graphic presentation dominated by stylized "ABC" lettering set prominently above the "Premium Beer" designation, accented with classic brewing crest motifs. This specific version is executed with a metallic background finish rather than the painted white enamel backgrounds seen on other issues.

Key identifying markings on this variation include the explicit state attribution to "ILLINOIS" alongside mandatory legal text reading "BREWED AND PACKED BY..."

Collector Context

Breweriana collectors track multiple production variations of the ABC label, including shifts between opaque enamel and reflective metallic body finishes, as well as minor differences in side-panel mandatory statements and manufacturer codes. Gold Brau also produced an ABC Premium Ale companion label sharing a similar design layout, making paired sets a popular pursuit among collectors of Chicago brewing history.
