Ace Hi Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Ace Hi Premium Beer History

The Ace Hi Premium Beer flat top can represents a fascinating chapter in Chicago's storied brewing landscape. Marketed under the Ace Brewing Company moniker in Chicago, Illinois, the label was an operational alias utilized by the Canadian Ace Brewing Company facility located at 39th and Emerald Avenue on the city's South Side.

The lineage of the brewery behind the can traces back to the historic Manhattan Brewing Company, an operation closely tied to high-profile Prohibition-era figures such as Johnny Torrio, Frank Nitti, and Lou Greenberg. Following repeal and subsequent corporate reorganizations, the brewery adopted the Canadian Ace name before employing alternative brewing names—including Ace Brewing Company—to distribute distinct product lines and expand market reach.

Ace Hi Premium Beer featured striking mid-century typography and bold heraldic design elements created to capture attention on retail shelves. For collectors of Chicago breweriana, the can offers historical significance as an artifact of the city's competitive post-war brewing consolidation. Known variations exist within the label run, featuring differences in metallic versus enamel surface finishes, alterations in brewery mandatory text, and different container sizes ranging from eight-ounce and standard twelve-ounce cans to larger sixteen-ounce pint formats.
