Acme Genuine Bock was marketed as a rich seasonal specialty brewed exclusively for late winter and spring distribution. Acme promoted the brand across the Pacific Coast with tavern displays and advertisements centered on the classic goat mascot. The Acme Brewing Company was originally established in San Francisco in 1907. After surviving Prohibition by manufacturing near beer and malt syrups, the firm rapidly expanded into one of the dominant brewing powerhouses on the West Coast. To satisfy surging demand across Southern California, the company opened a state-of-the-art facility in Los Angeles in 1935. Acme enjoyed massive regional success through the 1930s and 1940s, but intense postwar competition from expanding national shipping breweries began eroding its market share. By 1954, Acme ceased independent operations and sold its Los Angeles plant to Rheingold.
