Adler Brau Beer 12 Oz Zip Top Can

Adler Brau Zip Top Can History

The Adler Brau 12 Oz Zip Top can represents one of the most recognizable pieces of regional brewing history from the Fox Valley region of Wisconsin. Produced by the George Walter Brewing Company in Appleton, Wisconsin, Adler Brau served as the long-standing flagship brand for an enterprise originally established by German immigrant George Walter and sustained across generations. The name translates from German to "Eagle Brew," a namesake directly reflected in the eagle imagery and regal typography used throughout the brewery's marketing.

The George Walter Brewing Company operated out of its historic production facility at Walnut and Lawrence streets in downtown Appleton. In response to increasing market competition from expanding national breweries, Walter adopted modern canning formats to keep Adler Brau competitive on regional retail shelves.

Visually, the can is celebrated for its bold German-American aesthetic, featuring prominent brand lettering set against rich metallic tones and accented by the signature ribbon graphic across the body. For breweriana collectors, this can presents notable interest due to known production variations, which include differences in background metallic finishes, subtle shifts in ribbon placement, and variations in label panel colors.

Following the closure of the George Walter Brewing Company and the subsequent demolition of its downtown facility, surviving Adler Brau cans remain prized physical artifacts celebrating Appleton's independent industrial brewing past.
