Adler Brau Beer Flat Top Can

Adler Brau Flat Top Overview

The Adler Brau Beer flat top can represents the flagship label of the Geo. Walter Brewing Company, historically located in Appleton, Wisconsin. Deriving its name from the German word for eagle, Adler Brau served as the central brand for the Walter family's Fox River Valley brewing operations.

Design & Lithography

Manufactured using lithographed steel—often bearing the American Can Company Keglined branding—the can features prominent script lettering, heraldic eagle elements, and a bold ribbon design. For breweriana enthusiasts, the label is known for several distinct variations that appeared throughout its run. Production models show differences in background palette, ranging from cream-colored centers to stark white central fields. Among the most notable finds is a striking metallic silver version, believed to have originated as a trial sample or test can evaluated by brewery management. Other subtle graphic variations include modifications to the flaring of the ribbon motif and minor revisions to the mandatory text formatting.

Legacy

Operating from its long-standing facility at Walnut and Lawrence streets in downtown Appleton, Geo. Walter Brewing Company was an essential part of the regional brewing landscape. Although the brewery eventually shuttered, the Adler Brau name achieved enduring recognition in the Fox Cities, making original cans highly prized artifacts of midwestern beer history.
