All-american Extra Dry Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

All-American Extra Dry Tab Top

This twelve-ounce straight steel tab top can features an active athletic motif across its lower half. Dynamic illustrations portray three core pastimes: a golfer completing a swing, a football ball carrier driving forward, and a baseball player making a play in the field. Along the lower margin, the mandatory text notes that the beverage was brewed and packed by Drewrys Ltd. U.S.A. Inc. in South Bend, Indiana, and distributed by Chicago's Atlas Brewing Company.

The Brand

The All-American label was originally introduced as a regional offering by the Atlas Brewing Company. After Atlas became part of Drewrys' expanding operations, the brand remained an appealing option tailored for everyday consumers and sports fans across the upper Midwest. Marketed with action-driven sports imagery and a distinctively patriotic name, the "extra dry" designation positioned the brew alongside mid-century consumer preferences for light, crisp-finishing lagers.

The Brewery

Drewrys traced its lineage to Canada before establishing a major American presence in South Bend, Indiana, in 1936, converting the former Muessel Brewing facility into a modern production hub following the repeal of Prohibition. Drewrys expanded rapidly across the Midwest and acquired Chicago's historic Atlas Brewing Company in 1951, utilizing the facility and distributor network to broaden its reach. During the 1960s, Drewrys merged into the Associated Brewing Company conglomerate. Increasing competition from national brewing giants eventually led to the closure of the South Bend brewery in the early 1970s.

Collecting Context

Sports-themed breweriana remains a popular collecting focus, and this All-American can bridges the gap between mid-century beer packaging and classic sports graphic art. It is favored by collectors specializing in Indiana and Chicago brewing heritage, as well as those pursuing multi-sport illustrated cans.
