Alpen Glen Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Alpen Glen Beer from Burgermeister

The Alpen Glen Beer 12 oz tab top can is a notable artifact from the brewing scene in San Francisco, California. Produced under the Burgermeister Brewing Corporation—historically operating as the San Francisco Brewing Corporation—Alpen Glen served as one of the regional labels distributed alongside the brewery's flagship Burgermeister offerings.

During its peak operational years, the facility stood as one of the largest brewing enterprises in San Francisco. In addition to its primary line, which was well known for the iconic "Burgie" marketing persona, the company packaged several secondary and proprietary brands, including Alpen Glow, Wilshire Club, Brau Haus, and Alpen Glen. These labels allowed the brewery to broaden its distribution footprint across California and neighboring Western markets, catering to diverse retail tiers.

The label showcases alpine-themed graphic design, utilizing typography and scenic mountain motifs that were popular among Pacific Coast breweries of the period. Cans featuring the Burgermeister Brewing Corp. mandatory text represent an important era in Northern California brewing history before major national conglomerates acquired the San Francisco facility.

For breweriana collectors, variations of the Alpen Glen label exist across different production batches, showing distinctions in mandatory text placement, trim color accents, and canning facility markings. Because production numbers for secondary brands were substantially smaller than those of the main Burgermeister brand, this can remains a desirable specialty piece representing San Francisco's industrial brewing heritage.
