Alpine Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Alpine Lager From Potosi

The Alpine Lager Beer Flat Top Can was marketed under the Alpine Brewing Company name, an alias operating out of the historic Potosi Brewing Company facility in Potosi, Wisconsin. Potosi Brewing, situated near the Mississippi River in Grant County, frequently utilized various subsidiary brand names to distribute specialized product lines throughout the Upper Midwest.

Graphic Design and Labeling

The can features clean mid-century graphical styling, prominently showcasing the "Alpine Lager Beer" script alongside the promotional slogan, "Sparkling Clear". The color scheme and layout reflect the streamlined commercial packaging aesthetic typical of independent Wisconsin breweries during the mid-20th century.

Collector Interest and Scarcity

Within breweriana collecting circles, this flat top variation is significantly more elusive than subsequent self-opening pull-tab issues bearing the Alpine name. While tab-top Alpine cans surface with relative frequency, the flat top version had a more restricted regional footprint, making it a prized acquisition for enthusiasts focusing on Potosi brewery lineage and regional Midwestern cans.

Manufacturing and Variations

These cans were produced by the Continental Can Company. Variations exist across different canning batches, primarily distinguished by minor shifts in mandatory side-panel verbiage, mandatory alcohol statements, and specific can plant identification codes. Collectors of Potosi-associated labels seek out these minor text adjustments as markers of distinct production runs.
