Alpine Pilsner Beer Flat Top Can

Alpine Pilsner Flat Top Can

This 12-ounce flat top can showcases Alpine Pilsner Beer, packaged by the Fox De Luxe Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Produced during the mid-century era, the can's graphic design leans heavily into an Old World European motif. The label is highlighted by a traditional green German-style script flanked by the Fox shield logo, an illustration of a mountain castle perched on a rocky cliff, and a lower roundel featuring a smiling figure sporting a feathered Tyrolean hat. Bold thematic slogans complete the presentation, proclaiming "Superb flavor from the Old Tyrol" at the top and billing the contents as "A True Pilsner • Light and Lively" near the base.

Fox De Luxe positioned Alpine Pilsner as a distinct, Bavarian-inspired offering within its lineup. During an era when mid-century breweries competed heavily on regional shelf space, branding a beer around Alpine heritage allowed the company to evoke centuries of European brewing tradition. Marketed for its refreshing, light-bodied character, the brand served as an accessible table beer meant to appeal to consumers seeking authentic pilsner styling.

The facility behind this can held a long pedigree in Western Michigan brewing. Originally the historic plant of the Grand Rapids Brewing Company, the site on Michigan Street was acquired around 1940 by the Peter Fox Brewing Company of Chicago, operating locally under the Fox De Luxe banner. The brewery maintained active regional distribution throughout the 1940s, supplying Michigan with flagship Fox De Luxe beers as well as specialty labels like Patrick Henry and Alpine Pilsner. Like many regional facilities of the time, the brewery succumbed to postwar market pressures and nationwide consolidation, closing its doors in 1951.

For collectors of Midwest breweriana, this can is a notable artifact from Michigan's post-Prohibition brewing landscape. It holds strong appeal among enthusiasts of regional flat tops and those who focus on the classic illustrated themes of mid-century packaging.
