Altes Brisk Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Detroit's Altes Brisk Lager Can

Originating from the historic brewery located on Mack Avenue in Detroit, Michigan, the Altes Brisk Lager Beer flat top represents a prominent era in Midwestern brewing. Following the transition from the Tivoli Brewing Company name to the Altes Brewing Company, this can was produced to showcase the brewery's signature "Brisk" marketing campaign, which was heavily promoted across Michigan and the surrounding Great Lakes region.

Design and Branding

The can's graphic layout emphasizes the recognizable Altes name alongside bold "Brisk" lettering, a slogan crafted to highlight crisp refreshment and modern canning techniques of the mid-20th century. Produced by major manufacturers of the period, including the Continental Can Company, the container sports a distinctive red, white, and metallic color scheme designed for maximum shelf visibility.

Collector Notes and Variations

Altes was a major cultural fixture in Detroit, well known for sponsoring broadcasts of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions, making artifacts from the brand popular among regional history and sports memorabilia collectors. Among breweriana collectors, several variations of this flat top can are recognized, with differences found in manufacturer canning codes, metallic versus enamel finishes, and subtle modifications to the text and regulatory statements along the seam.
