Altes Golden Lager Beer 12 Oz Zip Top Can

Detroit's Classic Altes Lager Can

The Altes Golden Lager 12-ounce can represents a celebrated era of Motor City breweriana produced under the banner of The National Brewing Company of Michigan. Originally established by Detroit's Tivoli Brewing Company, the Altes label grew into a regional powerhouse and a cultural staple throughout Michigan, gaining widespread visibility through high-profile sports sponsorships for both Detroit Tigers baseball and Detroit Lions football broadcasts.

Following National Brewing Company's acquisition of the historic Mack Avenue brewery in Detroit, the company maintained local packaging and distribution under the "National of Mich." mandatory imprint. The can features the brand's bold red, white, and gold lithography, prominently showcasing the Altes script and the German-inspired "Tastes Like Fassbier" slogan across the label.

For collectors of Midwestern beer cans, known variations exist across production runs, distinguished by subtle differences in mandatory text formatting, copyright typography, and manufacturer seam details. The can remains an enduring artifact of Detroit's vibrant mid-century brewing industry.
