Altes Golden Lager Beer Cone Top Can

Altes Golden Lager Cone Top

The Altes Golden Lager Beer Cone Top Can was produced by the Altes Brewing Company at its facility in San Diego, California. Originally rooted in Detroit, Michigan under the Tivoli Brewing Company name, the Altes enterprise expanded westward by acquiring the historic Aztec Brewing Company plant in Southern California.

Because the San Diego operation had a comparatively brief production run relative to the company's long-running Midwestern headquarters, cans bearing the San Diego, California mandatory text are widely sought after by West Coast and regional breweriana specialists. The label design prominently incorporates the brand's metallic gold field, framed by deep red and black accents, highlighting the stylized "Altes" script and Golden Lager labeling.

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company, this high-profile container is represented across multiple manufacturing runs. Known variations exist among surviving examples, displaying differences in legal mandatory text, alcohol statement inclusions or exclusions, and slight adjustments in the brewery statement layout. The can stands as a significant artifact of mid-century brewing history, reflecting the post-war trend of prominent Midwestern brewing empires expanding into California's rapidly growing market.
