Amber Brau Lager Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Amber Brau from General Brewing

The Amber Brau Lager Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can is a classic West Coast collector's piece produced by General Brewing Company out of Los Angeles, California. Amber Brau was distributed across regional markets as part of General Brewing's expansive lineup of regional value and contract labels during the multi-brewery network era led by industrialist Paul Kalmanovitz.

Graphic Design and Heritage

The can's lithography showcases bold, German-inspired typography accompanied by heraldic crest imagery, presenting the product under the slogan "Fully Aged Lager Beer". The design incorporates rich background tones paired with metallic or enamel gold highlights, characteristic of California commercial beer can aesthetics of the era.

Manufacturing and Variations

Fabrication of the can bodies was handled by major container fabricators, including the American Can Company and National Can Company. Collectors recognize several variations of the label. These differences primarily appear in the mandatory brewery statement—where some printings list Los Angeles alongside companion facilities such as San Francisco and Vancouver—as well as variations in postal zip codes, state disclaimers, and subtle shifts in ink finishes and rim text.

As a tangible artifact of California's brewing consolidation era, the Los Angeles General Brewing mandatory makes this can a notable focus for regional breweriana enthusiasts.
