Ambrosia Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Ambrosia Lager Beer Can Overview

The Ambrosia Lager Beer flat top was produced for the Ambrosia Brewing Company of Chicago, Illinois. Originating from the historic South Side brewing district in Chicago, this container represents a notable chapter in mid-twentieth-century Midwestern breweriana.

Brewery Heritage

Ambrosia Brewing Company evolved out of the brewing lineage previously tied to the South Side Brewing Company and the Frederick brothers. Following the broader adoption of canned beer in metropolitan markets, Ambrosia distributed its flagship lager in flat top steel cans manufactured using the American Can Company's "Keglined" process. Early releases included the federally mandated Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statement alongside graphic instructional panels.

Design and Collector Significance

The label features prominent typography showcasing the "Ambrosia Lager Beer" name surrounded by traditional graphic embellishments reflective of mid-century Chicago packaging.

Among breweriana collectors specializing in Chicago breweries and instructional flat tops, this can remains a sought-after piece due to the brewery's regional footprint. Known variations exist across different manufacturing batches, primarily distinguished by minor changes in tax statements, canning manufacturer markings, and instructional panel typography.
