Aone Pilsner Beer Flat Top Can

Arizona's Flagship Flat Top Can

The A-1 Pilsner Beer Flat Top Can was produced by the Arizona Brewing Company in Phoenix, Arizona. Established shortly after the repeal of Prohibition, Arizona Brewing operated near downtown Phoenix and grew to become the state's foremost commercial brewery. While the brewery introduced an array of regional labels over the decades, A-1 emerged as its premier flagship brand, dominating beer sales across the Southwest.

Graphic Design and Branding

The can is widely recognized among breweriana collectors for its distinctive Southwestern aesthetic. The front panel prominently features the brand's classic eagle insignia encircled by stars, accented with decorative ribbons and medal graphics declaring the brew "Judged the Finest". During the era of this can's distribution, Arizona Brewing heavily promoted the label with the hospitable slogan, "The Western Way to Say Welcome," cementing its place in regional culture alongside promotional campaigns featuring artwork by cowboy artist Lon Megargee.

Collector Notes and Variations

Manufactured from steel, these containers carried trademark markings such as the American Can Company's "Keglined" logo on the side panels. Collectors note variations across manufacturing runs, reflecting minor updates in lithography and regulatory requirements. These variations include differences in the size and spacing of the stars framing the central eagle, adjustments in side panel typography, changes in mandatory alcohol statement markings, and different patent listings printed along the seam.

Because cans from the Arizona Brewing Company were distributed primarily within the Southwest, surviving examples remain sought-after centerpieces in breweriana collections.
