Aone Pilsner (lancer's) Beer Flat Top Can

Arizona's Iconic Lancers Can

The Aone (A-1) Pilsner "Lancers" can was produced by the Arizona Brewing Company in Phoenix, Arizona, representing a celebrated era in Southwestern brewing history. The "Lancers" designation on the label was a direct homage to brewery president J. F. Lanser, who directed the company's major regional expansion across Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Southern California.

Operating from its central facility at 12th and Madison streets in Phoenix, the Arizona Brewing Company established A-1 as a household name with long-running promotional slogans such as "The Western Way to Say Welcome" and "Judged the Finest". To strengthen its brand identity, the brewery commissioned renowned cowboy artist Lon Megargee to create a series of classic Western advertising paintings, most notably Cowboy's Dream, which became ubiquitous fixtures throughout regional establishments.

A distinct feature of the can's design is the prominent eagle emblem encircled by stars. This emblem became the focus of a notable trademark dispute when Anheuser-Busch challenged the brewery over the use of the eagle logo. The U.S. Trademark Office ruled in favor of the Arizona Brewing Company, allowing the label to continue using the insignia.

The can also incorporates the American Can Company "Keglined" trademark along the side panels. For collectors, known variations exist across production runs, featuring subtle differences in star sizing, text alignment, and mandatory manufacturer notations.
