Banner Extra Dry Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Banner Extra Dry Beer Overview

The Banner Extra Dry Premium Beer Flat Top Can represents a mid-century release from the George F. Stein Brewery Inc. of Buffalo, New York. Emerging from the brewery's Broadway facility, the Banner label served as an alternative brand to Stein's traditional namesake pilsners and Canandaigua lines.

Brewery Background & Collector Significance

Buffalo was a prominent brewing hub throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, supporting dozens of regional brewing enterprises. Geo. F. Stein catered to a loyal local audience, including the city's vast industrial and manufacturing workforce. As consumer preferences shifted toward lighter, dry lagers, Stein introduced Banner Extra Dry Premium Beer in canned form.

Because Geo. F. Stein permanently ceased brewing operations in the late 1950s, the Banner label had a relatively short production window compared to longer-running Buffalo labels. This brief packaging period contributes to its desirability among collectors specializing in Western New York breweriana.

Graphic Presentation

The can showcases classic mid-century commercial artwork, featuring bold banner typography, vibrant color contrast, and stylized heraldic accents that emphasize the "Extra Dry" designation. Collectors have documented manufacturing variations across production runs, primarily involving minor changes in canning company marks and label text placement. Today, the can remains a prized relic documenting the final years of independent brewing at Buffalo's historic Broadway facility.
