Barbarossa Beer Cone Top Can

Red Top Barbarossa Cone Top

Produced by the Red Top Brewing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, this high-profile cone top can represents the brewery's premium Barbarossa brand. The can carries Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) tax wording and features the brewery mandatory statement placed exclusively along the bottom border, with no statement of alcohol content.

Label Artwork and Lore

The central visual feature is an elaborate pictorial lithograph depicting the German legend of Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I, known as Barbarossa ("Redbeard"). According to the Kyffhäuser mountain myth, the emperor slumbers inside a subterranean cavern while ravens circle outside, waiting until his beard has grown through a stone table before he reawakens. The brewery adapted this folklore into a lively brewing scene: Barbarossa sits crowned upon his throne inside the cave as a gnome serves him a frothing goblet of beer poured directly from a wooden barrel, flanked by the imperial eagle coat of arms and circling ravens.

Banners framing the foot of the illustration highlight the brand's promotional taglines, identifying it as an Old Lager dubbed "the Beer of pleasant memories" alongside the declaration of a "Premium Beer brewed with exacting skill." Variations of the Barbarossa cone top exist across production runs, distinguished by minor differences in mandatory phrasing and alcohol statement inclusions.
