Bavarian Club Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Bavarian Club Premium Beer Flat Top

This 12-ounce flat top can represents a mid-century release of Bavarian Club Premium Beer, produced by the Jos. Huber Brewing Company of Monroe, Wisconsin. The can's visual presentation centers on an oval medallion bordered in blue and silver, enclosing a cheerful Bavarian character in traditional attire carrying beer steins against a bright yellow circular backdrop. Surrounding the central crest is an intricate silver line illustration displaying an alpine landscape filled with evergreen trees and a chalet.

Bavarian Club was developed and marketed to appeal to consumers seeking traditional Germanic brewing heritage. By leveraging Old World imagery—such as lederhosen, mountain vistas, and foaming mugs—the brand cultivated an identity rooted in time-tested European lager traditions. While many postwar domestic brands pivoted toward sleek, minimalist modernism, Bavarian Club maintained strong regional popularity by emphasizing classic brewing culture and hearty hospitality.

The brewery responsible for the brand is among the most historic brewing establishments in the Midwest. Originating in Monroe in 1845, the facility operated under various owners, including the Blumer family, prior to national Prohibition. The operation survived the dry years by producing near-beer and non-alcoholic beverages before resuming brewing in 1933. In 1947, Joseph Huber assumed full control, formally renaming the operation the Jos. Huber Brewing Company. As major national brands consolidated the market in the postwar era, Huber survived as an independent regional powerhouse through contract brewing, agile manufacturing, and regional heritage brands.

Within breweriana collecting, this flat top can serves as an enduring representative of Wisconsin’s rich brewing legacy. Collectors of mid-century flat tops and regional Midwestern labels prize the can for its engaging mascot illustration and its connection to Monroe’s long-standing brewing tradition.
