Bavarian Premium Beer Quart

Bavarian Premium Quart Cone Top

The Bavarian Premium Beer quart cone top stands as an emblematic artifact of Pennsylvania brewing heritage, produced by the Mount Carbon Brewery in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Prominently marketed under the brewery's regional motto, "A Mellow Brew from the Mountains," the Bavarian label served as Mount Carbon’s flagship offering across Schuylkill County and the anthracite coal region.

Brewery History & Regional Standing

Situated on South Centre Street in Pottsville, Mount Carbon Brewery operated in close proximity to neighboring brewing giant D.G. Yuengling & Son. For decades, Mount Carbon's Bavarian brand enjoyed widespread popularity throughout northeastern Pennsylvania, establishing a dedicated following in regional taverns, social clubs, and households. The brand's local prominence was significant enough that when Mount Carbon Brewery eventually ceased operations, Yuengling acquired the Bavarian recipe, branding rights, and packaging stock to continue distribution.

Can Production & Label Variations

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company using their Cap-Sealed quart cone top design, the container features bold Germanic typography and classic mid-century heraldic styling reflecting its Old World inspiration. The lithography prominently highlights the ornate "Bavarian" script, "Premium Beer" designation, and the Pottsville, PA brewery statement.

Among breweriana collectors, several variations in the label text are documented. These include examples featuring the earlier "Bavarian Type" titling versus the "Bavarian Premium" layout. Production runs also span the transition of federal labeling mandates, with variations displaying Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) wording alongside later non-IRTP releases.
