Bavarian's Select Beer 12 Oz Zip/Tab Top Can

Bavarian's Select Zip Top Can

The Bavarian's Select Beer can issued by International Breweries, Inc. in Covington, Kentucky, represents a notable chapter in Northern Kentucky brewing history.

Originally established in 1866, the Bavarian Brewing Company grew into one of the largest brewing operations in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. In 1959, the family-owned Covington brewery was acquired by International Breweries, Inc. (IBI), a multi-plant brewing conglomerate. Under IBI management, the facility operated as the Bavarian Division and continued packaging its flagship label, Bavarian's Select.

This can features mandatory text crediting International Breweries, Inc. at the Covington, Kentucky location. Cans bearing this corporate imprint represent the final phase of canning at the historic 12th Street plant before International Breweries permanently closed the Covington facility in 1966.

For collectors of Ohio River Valley and Northern Kentucky breweriana, cans carrying the International Breweries Covington mandatory text hold strong regional interest. Variations exist across production runs, featuring slight shifts in canning manufacturer marks, state tax stamps, and regulatory label text from the era.
