Bavarian Type Premium Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Mt. Carbon Bavarian Tab Top Can

The Bavarian Type Premium Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can represents the flagship label from the Mount Carbon Brewery of Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Mount Carbon was a prominent regional producer in Schuylkill County, where its Bavarian line became a staple in taverns and social clubs across Pennsylvania's anthracite coal region.

Brewery Heritage and Regional Prominence

Located on South Centre Street, Mount Carbon Brewery carried the memorable motto, "A Mellow Brew from the Mountains". For decades, Mount Carbon enjoyed fierce brand loyalty throughout eastern Pennsylvania, with its Bavarian label often outselling its cross-town Pottsville neighbor, D.G. Yuengling & Son. When Mount Carbon ceased brewing operations, Yuengling acquired the brand name, inventory, and formulas to continue production of the Bavarian recipe for dedicated local consumers.

Collector Notes and Label Variations

Within breweriana collecting, this 12 oz can exemplifies classic mid-century regional can aesthetics, featuring bold typography, traditional German-style heraldic motifs, and distinct metallic banding. Enthusiasts document variations across production runs of the Bavarian brand, including differences in mandatory brewery text, alterations between "Bavarian Type" and "Bavarian Premium" labeling, and markings from different container manufacturers. Surviving tab tops from this independent Pennsylvania brewery remain sought-after pieces of Schuylkill County brewing history.
