Bavarian Type Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Mount Carbon Bavarian Flat Top

Hailing from Pottsville, Pennsylvania, the Bavarian Type Premium Beer flat top was produced by the historic Mount Carbon Brewery. Operating under the famous regional motto "A Mellow Brew from the Mountains," Mount Carbon served Pennsylvania's Anthracite Coal Region for generations alongside its crosstown neighbor, D.G. Yuengling & Son.

Bavarian Type served as the brewery's flagship label, commanding fierce brand loyalty throughout Schuylkill County. The graphic presentation incorporates heraldic imagery and classic German styling, paying homage to the brewing heritage established at the plant in the nineteenth century by founder Lorenz Schmidt.

For breweriana collectors, cans from Mount Carbon represent an intriguing chapter in regional brewing history. During its mid-century heyday, Mount Carbon's Bavarian line was a dominant force in local coal-country taprooms, often competing head-to-head with Yuengling for local market share. When Mount Carbon ceased operations, Yuengling acquired the Bavarian recipe, naming rights, and packaging inventory to briefly continue producing the beer for its dedicated regional following.

Collectors recognize variations of this flat top featuring minor differences in mandatory text and graphic layouts across different canning runs. Today, it stands as a celebrated piece of Pennsylvania breweriana from one of Pottsville's most storied independent packaging runs.
