Becker's Uinta Club Mellow Beer Flat Top Can

Becker's Uinta Club Mellow Beer Can

This 12-ounce flat top container was produced for the Becker Products Company of Ogden, Utah. A prominent central circular medallion encloses the silhouette of a flying waterfowl in mid-flight, framed by sweeping red and blue chevron-style banners that bear the name UINTA CLUB. Above the emblem sits the flowing script logo of Becker's, while the lower portion displays MELLOW BEER in clean block lettering.

Brand History

The Uinta Club brand was introduced during the post-Prohibition era, drawing its name from the rugged Uinta Mountain Range of northeastern Utah and southwestern Wyoming. To capture the spirit of the Intermountain West, the Becker family positioned the beer alongside regional outdoor recreation and sporting traditions. The inclusion of flying waterfowl imagery resonated strongly with local sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts. Billed for its smooth character, the brand stood as one of the region's prominent regional lagers before being discontinued when the brewery ended production in the mid-1960s.

The Brewery

The origins of the brewery date back to the late nineteenth century when German immigrant John S. Becker and his sons, Gustav Lorenz ("Gus") and Albert Becker, established the Becker Brewing and Malting Company in Ogden along the Ogden River. When Utah enacted statewide prohibition in 1917, the family adapted by moving primary brewing operations just across the state line to Evanston, Wyoming, while reorganizing the Ogden plant as the Becker Products Company to produce near-beer, sodas, and ice. Following the national repeal of Prohibition in 1933, brewing returned to the Ogden facility. Becker remained a stalwart of Utah's brewing landscape for decades until mounting pressure from national brewing conglomerates led to its closure in the 1960s.

Collecting Context

Due to Utah's distinct brewing history and strict regulatory environment, cans from the state represent a specialized niche in the breweriana hobby. Cans from Becker Products are highly sought after by collectors of Western brewing heritage, with the Uinta Club line and its distinctive outdoor motifs holding enduring appeal.
