Beverwyck Famous Beer Cone Top Can

Albany's Iconic Beverwyck Cone Top

The Beverwyck Famous Beer Cone Top Can is a standout artifact of East Coast brewing history, produced for Beverwyck Breweries, Inc. of Albany, New York. The brewery traced its heritage back to the nineteenth century under Michael N. Nolan, a prominent civic leader who served as both Mayor of Albany and a United States Congressman. Beverwyck persevered through Prohibition by manufacturing non-alcoholic malt beverages, allowing the company to re-emerge as a major regional player in the Northeast.

Beverwyck was an early adopter of Continental Can Company's "Cap-Sealed" containers. The label design prominently features the classic Beverwyck script and ornate heraldic crest graphics. The brand remained a regional staple across New York and New England until the facility was ultimately acquired by the F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company.

For breweriana collectors, several variations of the Famous Beer cone top exist. These differences encompass high-profile and low-profile cone heights, spout designs featuring smooth contours or inverted ribs, flat versus concave bottoms, and differing mandatory legal text, including examples bearing the "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) statement. Subtle face label changes, such as the inclusion or omission of export designations, also distinguish different production runs of this Albany classic.
