Black Dallas Beer Flat Top Can

St. Louis Black Dallas Flat Top

The Black Dallas Beer flat top can associated with the A.B.C. Brewing Corporation of St. Louis, Missouri, stands as a legendary piece of Midwestern breweriana. Produced in collaboration with the American Can Company, the container is revered among advanced collectors for its historical interest and remarkable scarcity.

Brewery Heritage and Transition

Originally linked to A.B.C. Brewing in St. Louis, the Black Dallas label played a significant role during a major corporate transition. When the Manhattan Brewing Company of Chicago acquired the assets of the A.B.C. Brewing Corporation, a transitional packaging phase took place. In order to continue distribution while awaiting updated lithography from the container manufacturer, cans featuring the St. Louis heading and A.B.C. mandatory texts were utilized. Certain runs featured blackened or overwritten sections across the face and side panels to cover former St. Louis corporate statements and update brewery information.

Graphic Design and Collectibility

The can showcases a dramatic dark background complemented by bold lettering and classic "Keglined" branding. Known variations exist across different production runs and transitional phases, displaying differences in brewery attribution, permit statements, and panel text placement. Because surviving examples bearing the original St. Louis attribution are exceedingly scarce, this container remains one of the most celebrated and coveted Midwestern flat tops in the hobby.
