Black Dallas Malt Liquor Flat Top Can

Leisy's Black Dallas Malt Liquor

The Black Dallas Malt Liquor can produced by the Leisy Brewing Company of Cleveland, Ohio, represents a notable mid-century release from one of the region's historic brewing establishments. Founded in 1873 by Isaac Leisy on Vega Avenue, the brewery operated as one of Cleveland's largest independent breweries before ending operations at the close of the 1950s.

The Black Dallas brand carries a broad history across American breweriana, having appeared under several regional brewing companies throughout the mid-20th century. Leisy adopted the label to expand its portfolio alongside its traditional lagers, distributing the malt liquor across Ohio and into surrounding states.

The can features high-contrast graphics defined by a dark background, bold lettering for "Famous Black Dallas Malt Liquor," and the memorable tagline, "As Smooth As Evening Dusk".

Among collectors, the Leisy issue is recognized for several distinct packaging details. Variations exist across production runs, showing differences in state tax stamps stamped onto the lids, can manufacturer markings, and mandatory alcohol statement wordings (such as designations indicating alcohol content between 3.2% and 7%). These nuances document the regulatory and distribution requirements faced by regional breweries during that era.
