Black Label Beer 12 Oz Zip/Tab Top Can

Carling Black Label Belleville Can

The Carling Black Label 12 oz zip and tab top can produced out of Belleville, Illinois, represents an important era of expansion for the Carling Brewing Company. Carling acquired a major regional presence in Belleville following its purchase of the historic Griesedieck Western Brewery, seamlessly integrating the Illinois facility into its nationwide distribution network.

This can features the brand's iconic mid-century aesthetic, centered around the bold black banner, contrasting red and white accents, and traditional brewing heraldry. During the era of national growth fueled by the famous "Hey Mabel, Black Label!" marketing campaign, Carling distributed cans across the country bearing plant location rosters. Belleville examples reflect this distribution strategy, with cans displaying the Belleville plant name either highlighted individually or listed alongside other Carling brewing hubs such as Cleveland, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; Natick, Massachusetts; Atlanta, Georgia; and Fort Worth, Texas.

For breweriana enthusiasts, known variations exist regarding can manufacturers (including Continental Can Company and American Can Company), seam construction, mandatory state alcohol markings, and the arrangement of brewery city rosters. Its connection to the storied Belleville brewing grounds makes it a classic regional representative in can collecting.
