Black Label (carling's) Beer Flat Top Can

Atlanta Carling's Black Label Can

The Black Label flat top produced by Carling Brewing Company in Atlanta, Georgia, represents a key period of mid-century brewery expansion across the American South. Built to meet growing regional demand, the Atlanta plant operated high-speed packaging lines designed to distribute canned product across multiple southern states.

Graphic Design

The can showcases the classic graphic identity of the label during the height of the nationally recognized "Hey Mabel, Black Label!" marketing campaign. The front face features the traditional red, black, and white color palette, anchored by the cursive "Carling's" script placed directly above the prominent "Black Label" lettering. The clean, contrasting visual hierarchy provided bold shelf recognition for retail distribution.

Mandatory Panel Variations

For collectors focusing on regional plants and mandatory texts, the Atlanta-designated can presents interesting historical detail. As Carling expanded its presence across the country, the brewery updated its mandatory statements to include various combinations of manufacturing hubs. Cans bearing the Atlanta location can be found with multiple city list variations on the side panel, reflecting shifting network operations alongside other Carling locations such as Cleveland, Baltimore, Belleville, Natick, Frankenmuth, and Tacoma.

Brewery Heritage

The Atlanta facility was a major modern installation for Carling before the property was eventually repurposed. Cans displaying the Atlanta brewery line remain significant artifacts from Georgia's industrial canning and brewing history.
