Black Label Harvard Class Of '44 25th Reunion Can

Harvard Class of '44 Reunion Can

The Black Label Harvard Class of '44 25th Reunion can was produced by the Carling Brewing Company at its Natick, Massachusetts plant. Located along Route 9 near Lake Cochituate, the Natick facility opened in 1956 as one of the most modern breweries in New England and served as the company's regional production hub.

During this era, Carling established a tradition of producing customized commemorative cans for New England collegiate alumni gatherings. Rather than standard retail stock, these specialty cans were issued specifically for attendees celebrating milestone anniversaries, including alumni events for Harvard and Dartmouth. This can honored the 25th anniversary celebration for Harvard University’s graduating Class of 1944.

The graphic design integrates celebratory reunion text alongside the classic Carling Black Label branding. Because these commemorative issues were distributed directly to reunion participants rather than through commercial grocers or package stores, surviving examples are prized among breweriana enthusiasts who specialize in Ivy League and collegiate memorabilia. Variations exist across the various college reunion runs produced at the Natick brewery, reflecting shifts in can manufacturing and plant-specific labeling across different graduating classes.
