Blackhawk Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Atlantic's Blackhawk Flat Top

The Blackhawk Premium Beer Flat Top Can was produced for the Atlantic Brewing Company of Chicago, Illinois. Operating from its brewery on West Fullerton Avenue, Atlantic Brewing was a notable regional brewer known for packaging an extensive roster of proprietary and contracted labels.

Design and Lithography

The can features bold graphic design with prominent metallic elements centered around the Blackhawk name and iconography. Produced by the National Can Company, the layout utilizes a classic mid-century presentation with symmetrical branding across the face and statutory mandatory text positioned along the seam. Collectors recognize minor variations that include differences in the metallic sheen and subtle layout adjustments in the side-panel mandatory text.

Breweriana and Collecting Context

While the Blackhawk moniker appeared on packaging from several different regional breweries throughout the Midwest over the decades, examples bearing the Atlantic Brewing Company Chicago mandatory label are among the most celebrated by Illinois breweriana enthusiasts. Its eye-catching metallic finish and Chicago heritage make it a standout piece of mid-century packaging history.
