Blackhawk Topping Beer Cone Top Can

Blackhawk Topping Beer Cone Top

The Blackhawk Topping Beer Cone Top Can is a prized Midwestern breweriana item produced by the Blackhawk Brewing Company of Davenport, Iowa. Bearing the historic brewery slogan "A Famous Brew Since 1882," this container represents one of the standout post-Prohibition releases from the Quad Cities brewing region.

Graphic Design and Visual Profile

The can features an eye-catching color scheme incorporating bold yellow, red, black, and white tones. The central visual highlight is the prominent illustrated portrait of Sauk leader Chief Black Hawk in profile, adorned with feathers. The "Topping Beer" brand lettering arches across the face within decorative trim, framed alongside the brewery name and regional Davenport markings.

Manufacturer and Labeling

Produced utilizing Continental Can Company's "Cap Sealed" construction, the container incorporates the manufacturer's distinctive high-profile cone top format. Extant examples display various mandatory panel texts, including Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statements and alcohol content declarations such as "Alcohol Content Not Over 4% by Weight".

Variations and Collecting Significance

Collectors recognize multiple variations across the Blackhawk Topping line. Label differences appear across mandatory legal text, subtle background paint formulations, and container sizing, with the graphics appearing on both standard twelve-ounce cans and larger quart-sized containers. Because Blackhawk Brewing Company operated with a concentrated regional footprint, this cone top remains a highly sought-after centerpiece among Iowa and regional beer can enthusiasts.
