Blatz Beer Flat Top Can

Peoria Heights Blatz Flat Top

The Blatz Beer flat top bearing the Peoria Heights, Illinois mandatory represents a significant era of corporate transition in American brewing history. Founded as an independent Milwaukee brewer by Valentin Blatz in the nineteenth century, the brand came under the ownership of Pabst Brewing Company during the late 1950s. Following this acquisition, Pabst integrated Blatz packaging into its massive Peoria Heights facility, a former Premier Malt Products site that grew to become one of the largest brewing operations in the country.

Graphics and Brewery Text

This steel flat top features classic Blatz branding, showcasing the recognizable script logo and the declaration of "Milwaukee's Finest Beer." Despite the prominent Milwaukee heritage promoted on the label face, the legal mandatory imprint identifies the can's origin as the Pabst Brewing Company plant in Peoria Heights, Illinois. This geographic juxtaposition makes the can a favorite among collectors who specialize in regional plant issues and crossover breweriana from the Midwest.

Production and Variations

During its manufacturing run at the Peoria Heights plant, multiple can fabricators supplied the steel containers, including the Continental Can Company and the National Can Company. Collectors have documented variations involving manufacturer codes, seam text placement, and state-specific lid tax stamps used for regional distribution.

The Peoria Heights facility served as a major production hub for Pabst until the brewery ceased operations in the early 1980s. Today, Blatz cans bearing the Peoria Heights plant imprint stand as historic artifacts of the mid-century consolidation that reshaped iconic Midwestern beer labels.
