Blatz Beer Flat Top Can

Blatz Beer Flat Top Overview

The Blatz Beer flat top can represents a classic piece of breweriana from the Valentin Blatz Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Blatz grew into one of Milwaukee's powerhouse breweries alongside peers like Pabst, Miller, and Schlitz. The company established a prominent place in American brewing history, notably pioneering national bottling and distribution before adopting canned packaging formats.

Manufactured across production runs by container producers such as the Continental Can Company, the Blatz Beer flat top showcases the company's trademark script lettering, circular logo crest, and references to the brand's tagline, "Milwaukee's Finest Beer".

Among breweriana collectors, these cans are documented across both Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) and post-IRTP regulatory eras. Variations exist across different production runs, featuring differences in background color schemes—ranging from metallic finishes to dark blue and cream—as well as slight modifications to canning codes and mandatory brewery text. The Valentin Blatz brewery operated its historic Milwaukee facility until its acquisition by Pabst, leaving these flat top cans as enduring artifacts of the city's golden age of brewing.
