Blatz Beer Pint Can

Pabst-Brewed Blatz Pint Cans

The Blatz Beer pint can carrying the Los Angeles, California brewery mandatory represents an intriguing chapter in American brewing history. Originating as one of Milwaukee's historic brewing powerhouses, Blatz was acquired by Pabst Brewing Company during an era of significant industry consolidation. Following the purchase, Pabst utilized its West Coast production facility—the former Los Angeles Brewing Company plant—to package Blatz beer for regional distribution.

This pint container holds particular significance due to the landmark corporate and legal saga surrounding its production. Shortly after Pabst acquired the Blatz label, the United States Department of Justice challenged the merger under federal antitrust laws. The high-profile legal battle reached the United States Supreme Court, which ultimately ordered Pabst to divest the brand. As a consequence of this ruling, Blatz cans bearing the Pabst Los Angeles designation were manufactured during a relatively narrow operational window before the brand was transferred to another brewing company.

The sixteen-ounce format provided consumers with a full pint serving, featuring the iconic Blatz script and branding scaled to the larger steel surface. Known variations exist across production batches, displaying subtle differences in mandatory statement formatting, manufacturer seam notches, and lid specifications. For collectors of West Coast breweriana and corporate brewing history, this Los Angeles pint remains a noteworthy artifact of mid-century antitrust precedent and regional packaging operations.
