Blatz Bock Flat Top Can

Peoria Heights Blatz Bock Flat Top

The Blatz Bock flat top can produced by Pabst Brewing Company in Peoria Heights, Illinois, represents a notable chapter in mid-century brewing history. Originally an independent Milwaukee brewery founded by Valentin Blatz, the brand was acquired by Pabst Brewing Company in the late 1950s. Following the acquisition, Pabst utilized its sprawling Peoria Heights production facility to package Blatz products for regional distribution.

Seasonal Heritage and Design

Unlike year-round flagship lagers, bock beers were brewed specifically for seasonal spring release. Because of this limited distribution window, bock cans saw considerably smaller production runs. The Blatz Bock flat top showcases the traditional bock goat emblem alongside classic Blatz script, rendered with rich seasonal graphics.

Plant Imprint and Variations

The Peoria Heights mandatory text distinguishes this can from versions packaged at other Pabst facilities across the country. Collectors recognize variations across production batches, including differences in can manufacturer stamps and mandatory legal phrasing along the seam. The history of the Peoria Heights brewery—which served as a major production hub for decades before its eventual closure—makes this regional issue a prominent piece of Illinois and Wisconsin brewing crossover history.
