Blatz Milwaukee's Finest Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Blatz 16 Oz Can from Newport, KY

The Blatz Milwaukee's Finest Beer 16 oz tab top can produced under the "Blatz Div. of G. Heileman" in Newport, Kentucky, represents a notable chapter in mid-century American brewing consolidation. Originally founded in Milwaukee by Valentin Blatz, the brand grew into one of the country's most recognizable beer labels. After federal antitrust rulings required Pabst to divest the brand, the G. Heileman Brewing Company acquired Blatz and integrated it into its expanding production network across the Midwest.

Heileman utilized the historic George Wiedemann brewing facility in Newport, Kentucky, to package Blatz for regional distribution. This one-pint container showcases classic Blatz branding, highlighted by the familiar triangular emblem and bold "Milwaukee's Finest Beer" script. The mandatory text on the can reflects the Newport division of G. Heileman, documenting the facility's role in keeping the Milwaukee label in widespread production.

For collectors of breweriana and oversized containers, one-pint cans bearing specific regional plant mandatories offer significant historical interest. Different variations of this design exist across Heileman's multi-brewery system, reflecting subtle differences in factory markings and packaging runs, making the Newport, Kentucky can a distinguished piece for regional display.
