Old Heidelberg Pilsener Cone Top

The Blatz Old Heidelberg Pilsener Type cone top represents a classic piece of Milwaukee brewing history. Blatz Brewing Company, rooted in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, featured the Old Heidelberg brand as one of its prominent flagship lines, establishing a distinctive presence in mid-twentieth-century canned beer packaging.

Graphic Design and Labeling

The can features the recognizable Old Heidelberg crest and typography, highlighted by the "Pilsener Type" designation across the upper front face. The design incorporated heraldic emblems, ornate scrollwork, and contrasting banners that made the brand stand out on retail shelves. Over its manufacturing lifespan, the label appeared in color variations, including versions with cream lettering as well as examples produced with white fonts.

Collector Variations and Regulatory Text

Breweriana collectors document several variations of the Old Heidelberg Pilsener Type can. These variations reflect changes in federal and state regulatory mandates across regional distribution markets. Collectors frequently encounter versions bearing the "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) statement, while others showcase varying state-mandated alcohol content percentages or no alcohol statements at all. Additionally, Blatz utilized different cone profile formats over time, making subtle seam, spout, and manufacturing differences an active focus among can collectors.

As one of the definitive representations of Wisconsin's classic brewing heritage, the Old Heidelberg Pilsener Type can remains a staple highlight in breweriana collections.
