Blatz Pilsener Beer Cone Top Can

Blatz Pilsener Cone Top History

The Blatz Pilsener Beer cone top can represents a key chapter for the Blatz Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As one of Milwaukee's historic industrial brewing titans, Blatz adopted canned packaging to expand both regional and national distribution.

Produced in partnership with canmakers such as Continental Can Company and Crown Cork & Seal, the Blatz Pilsener design showcases classic graphic styling centered around the prominent Blatz script, traditional heraldic crests, and hops motifs. The can was produced across multiple structural profiles, including low-profile designs, flat-bottom inverted rib constructions, and J-spout formats.

Collectors track several distinct variations of this can. Differences appear in mandatory tax and regulatory text, such as Internal Revenue Tax Paid statements, alcohol content declarations, and slight shifts in typography and accent colors across the label bands. Additionally, specialized olive drab variations were manufactured for military rations and overseas troop distribution during World War II, replacing the standard metallic civilian finish with non-reflective camouflage coating.

Today, the Blatz Pilsener cone top remains an essential artifact of Wisconsin breweriana and mid-twentieth-century metal container heritage.
