Blitz Weinhard Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Blitz-Weinhard 16 Oz Tab Top

The Blitz-Weinhard 16 Oz Tab Top can is a classic piece of Pacific Northwest breweriana, originating from the historic Blitz-Weinhard Brewing Company in Portland, Oregon. As one of the most prominent regional brewing powerhouses in the American West, the company distributed this popular 16-ounce half-quart (one pint) format across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and neighboring markets.

Graphic Design and Regional Identity

The half-quart can showcases Blitz-Weinhard's traditional heraldic identity, distinguished by red, gold, and white livery. Printings often featured traditional brewery mottos such as "Time Perfected" alongside bold typography and brewery crests. The tall graphic canvas of the 16-ounce can provided exceptional visibility on regional shelves, reinforcing the brand's stronghold in local taverns, logging communities, and sporting events.

Documented Variations

Among breweriana collectors, known variations exist across production runs. Documented differences include changes in the presence or absence of mandatory UPC barcodes, variations in side-panel mandatory texts and alcohol statements, shifts in accent color bands, and distinct manufacturer stamps from packaging suppliers like the Continental Can Company.

Historical Significance

Hailing from the landmark multi-block brewery facility on Burnside Street in downtown Portland, this tall-boy can represents an era of deep regional brand loyalty before nationwide industry consolidations altered the Pacific Northwest brewing landscape.
