Blitz Weinhard Select Beer Flat Top Can

Blitz Weinhard Select Flat Top

The Blitz Weinhard Select Beer flat top represents a significant chapter in Pacific Northwest brewing history, produced by the historic Blitz-Weinhard Brewing Company of Portland, Oregon. Originating from one of the West Coast's oldest commercial brewing establishments, this container was distributed widely throughout Oregon, Washington, and neighboring markets during the mid-twentieth-century canning boom.

The graphic presentation showcases classic mid-century commercial design, centered on the prominent Blitz-Weinhard branding and traditional brewing crest. Collectors frequently highlight examples featuring factory-embossed vanity lids, where the Blitz-Weinhard name was stamped directly into the steel end.

Across different canning batches, several variations are documented among collectors. These differences primarily involve mandatory alcohol statements—such as varying text notations tailored to individual state liquor control laws—as well as subtle shifts between metallic gold and duller background finishes. Seam styles and packaging manufacturer marks also vary, with containers produced by major manufacturers like the Continental Can Company. As an emblem of Portland's regional brewing legacy before the rise of the modern craft movement, the Select Beer can remains a foundational display piece for Pacific Northwest breweriana collections.
