Bohemian Type Export Beer Flat Top Can

Southern's Bohemian Export Can

The Bohemian Type Export Beer flat top can is a notable piece of regional West Coast brewing history produced by Southern Brewing Company (associated with the Bohemian Brewing Corp. of California) in Los Angeles, California.

Brewery Background & Distribution

Southern Brewing Company supplied the burgeoning Southern California market with several popular labels, including its Bo-Bohemian and Balboa brands. Bohemian Type Export served as a prominent entry in this portfolio, designed to capture consumer demand for traditional Bohemian and export-style beers during an era when local packaging and regional distribution were in peak competition against emerging national conglomerates.

Design & Known Variations

The can features classic mid-century typography and commercial graphics centered around the bold "Bohemian Type Export Beer" branding. Within breweriana circles, this label is recognized for subtle manufacturing and print distinctions. Known variations exist primarily in the layout of the mandatory text and the sizing of the fluid volume declaration, specifically distinguishing issues with large contents lettering from those with small contents lettering. These variations make the label an engaging focus for regional specialists and collectors of classic Los Angeles breweriana.
