Brauhaus Beer Flat Top Can

Brauhaus Beer Flat Top Overview

Produced by the Metropolis Brewery of N.J., Inc. in Trenton, New Jersey, the Brauhaus Beer flat top can represents a compelling piece of mid-century regional brewing history. The Trenton facility, widely recognized for producing iconic labels like Champale alongside various regional contract offerings, packaged Brauhaus with a distinct German-inspired identity.

Design and Aesthetic

The can features traditional Germanic motifs, highlighted by bold, stylized typography, heraldic crests, and classic border work. This visual styling was favored by regional breweries seeking to evoke Old World heritage and traditional brewing imagery on store shelves.

Brewery Network Connections

The Brauhaus label occupies a fascinating place in East Coast breweriana due to the interconnected operations under brewery magnate Louis Hertzberg. The brand appeared in both beer and ale formats across affiliated properties, most notably Metropolis Brewery in New Jersey and Old Dutch Brewers in New York. The Trenton-labeled Brauhaus Beer flat top reflects Metropolis's direct involvement with the brand.

Variations and Collector Interest

Collectors recognize multiple variations across different production runs of this can. Differences between variants can be seen in minor side panel layout shifts, manufacturer markings, and mandatory brewery text. For collectors specializing in New Jersey breweriana or mid-century regional brand networks, tracking down these distinct manufacturing variants provides significant depth and historical context.
