Brauhaus Beer Flat Top Can

Metropolis Brauhaus Flat Top

The Brauhaus Beer Flat Top Can was produced by Metropolis Brewery of N.J., Inc., located in Trenton, New Jersey. Operating out of the historic brewery complex situated at Lalor and Lamberton Streets—originally established as the Peoples Brewing Company—Metropolis was one of the most prominent packaging breweries in post-war New Jersey.

Brewery Background and Packaging

While Metropolis achieved nationwide fame for its signature sparkling malt liquor, Champale, the facility maintained extensive packaging lines dedicated to traditional beers, ales, and contract labels. Brauhaus Beer served regional markets across the Mid-Atlantic, distributed alongside several other proprietary and contract brands originating from the Trenton plant.

The can's label design embraced traditional Germanic breweriana aesthetics, featuring prominent heraldic motifs and bold lettering that catered to consumer demand for old-world style lagers during the mid-20th century.

Collector Significance and Variations

For breweriana enthusiasts, the Brauhaus flat top from Metropolis represents a notable piece of Garden State industrial history. Collectors have identified variations in the side panel text, primarily involving distributor notices and mandatory tax statements corresponding to regional market distribution.

Because regional canning runs by Metropolis encompassed multiple localized brand names before industry consolidation reshaped the American brewing landscape, the Brauhaus can remains a sought-after label among collectors specializing in New Jersey breweries and mid-century flat tops.
