Brown Derby Lager Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Walter's Brown Derby 16 Oz Pint

The Brown Derby Lager Beer 16 oz tab top can represents a notable chapter in contract packaging for the Walter Brewing Company of Pueblo, Colorado. Originally established as a private-label grocery brand distributed through major supermarket chains such as Safeway, Brown Derby was produced under license by various regional breweries across the United States. Walter Brewing Company, an enduring Colorado brewery founded by German immigrant Martin Walter, handled production runs of the label to serve retailers across the Rocky Mountain region and surrounding western markets.

For collectors of regional breweriana, 16-ounce (one pint or half-quart) containers occupy a popular niche compared to standard twelve-ounce packaging. This large-format container features the traditional Brown Derby visual identity, characterized by the prominent shield emblem and bold lettering. Walter's production runs of the label frequently included localized statutory markings, such as mandatory state alcohol percentage designations stamped or printed on the lids to comply with differing regional distribution laws.

Known variations exist among Walter-produced examples, including differences in lid stamping, statutory alcohol statements, and subtle shifts in manufacturer can markings across distinct manufacturing runs. Because Walter Brewing Company was among Colorado's notable long-standing independent operations before halting original plant operations in the latter half of the twentieth century, this pint-sized container remains a compelling crossover piece for enthusiasts of both Colorado brewing history and classic supermarket brand heritage.
