Bub's Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Bub's Beer Tab Top History

The Bub's Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can represents the mid-century packaging era of the storied Peter Bub Brewery of Winona, Minnesota. Established in the nineteenth century in the scenic shadow of the Sugar Loaf bluff, the brewery became a regional staple and Winona's longest-running brewing operation.

This can features the brand's long-running slogan: "Makes It Fun To Be Thirsty!" The design prominently displays the Peter Bub Brewery mandatory text from Winona, capturing an era before the label was acquired and produced by Walter Brewing Company in Eau Claire, Wisconsin after the Winona facility closed.

Collectors appreciate this can for its classic Upper Midwest regional graphics and local heritage. Multiple variations exist, primarily identified by differences in mandatory alcohol statements—such as versions noting 3.2% alcohol by weight—and differing can manufacturer marks. Because Peter Bub operated as an independent regional brewery facing intense competition from national brewing giants, authentic Winona-labeled cans remain popular centerpieces in regional breweriana collections.
