Bub's Beer Cone Top Can

Peter Bub's Classic Cone Top

Produced for the Peter Bub Brewery in Winona, Minnesota, the Bub's Beer cone top can represents one of the most recognized regional canning efforts from the upper Mississippi River valley. Peter Bub, who learned the brewing trade before taking over the historic Sugar Loaf Brewery site in Winona, built the label into a celebrated local staple.

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company in a high-profile format, the can showcases the distinctive "Bub's" brand lettering centered boldly on the front face alongside the Peter Bub mandatory brewery markings.

For collectors, this can is notable for its numerous text variations stemming from differing state alcohol regulation requirements of the era. Cans were issued with varying mandatory texts, including versions indicating 3.2% alcohol by weight, designations denoting strong beer, and issues with no alcohol content statement at all. Additional variations in slogan text and brewery statements also exist across different production runs.

The Peter Bub Brewery operated under the shadow of Winona's Sugar Loaf bluff for generations before packaging operations transitioned, making this cone top a celebrated centerpiece of Minnesota breweriana history.
