Buckeye Premium Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Buckeye Under Meister Brau

The Buckeye Premium Beer 12 oz tab top can represents a pivotal transitional era in Midwestern brewing history. Originating in Toledo, Ohio, the Buckeye Brewing Company stood as one of the city's oldest commercial enterprises, operating through major industry shifts before being acquired by Chicago-based Meister Brau, Inc. Under Meister Brau ownership, the Michigan Street facility continued canning Buckeye Premium Beer while expanding production to include other regional labels and early formulations that eventually laid the groundwork for modern light beers.

For breweriana collectors, cans bearing the "Buckeye Div. of Meister Brau" mandatory text are significant markers of the final chapter of the Toledo plant before Meister Brau's assets were liquidated and sold to the Miller Brewing Company. The graphic presentation on these cans retained the classic Buckeye identity—highlighted by heraldic crest elements, traditional script, and bold Ohio branding—while integrating the corporate division imprint.

Throughout the Meister Brau production period, variations emerged across different manufacturing batches, reflecting subtle updates to mandatory statements, canning seams, and metallic paint finishes. Because the historic Toledo plant ceased operations following the Miller acquisition, cans featuring the Meister Brau Toledo designation remain prized artifacts documenting the Glass City's rich industrial brewing heritage.
